As part of the social mission here at Talent Insight Group, we’re asking our delivery team to nominate the charities that really matter to them. This week, it’s over to Senior Research Manager Emma Forbes to share her story.
I’ve chosen The Koram Centre, which is a registered charity in my home town of Strabane in Northern Ireland. They offer professional counselling, psychotherapy, and psychosocial support. Their qualified therapists are accredited by recognised bodies and committed to client confidentiality, ongoing professional development, and positive mental health.
During my teenage years, I faced significant mental health challenges and was denied support from my GP. The charity provided me with essential and proactive assistance. I also know friends and family who have benefited from their services, it is an invaluable community resource.
The need for these types of services in all communities has increased in recent years. More and more individuals of all ages, even entire families, are finding everyday living and associated stress really difficult to manage. The work of the Koram Centre has resulted in many positive outcomes that make a difference to all service users and their families.
The most important thing is how valuable this charity is to the local community. You hope you never have to use their services, however, there is comfort in knowing that they will be there to offer support when needed.
There are lots of ways to get involved, from donating to volunteering. You could help the charity raise money or promote their services, organise an event, keep their computers working, volunteer to help in one of their fundraising events or generally keep things running smoothly. They need support with tasks such as event organising, IT, maintenance, fundraising and marketing. If you have skills in these kinds of areas, volunteering is a great way to help them.
